LIP FILLERS
If you were born with thin lips or your lips have become thinner or started to droop because of aging, lip fillers can help you achieve fuller, more voluptuous lips. At Peel Haus, our expert injectors are pleased to perform lip augmentation for patients. We only use FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers; they are made of a sugar complex found naturally in our bodies. The fillers replenish the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time, helping you achieve more volume and a youthful appearance. At Peel Haus, we customize lip filler treatment for each patient. Full and natural results are typically seen instantly with just one treatment and can last from 6 to 12 months. There are many types of fillers that can be used in the lips and our expert team is here to help you determine the best solution for you.
As we age, we naturally lose collagen and fat. This leads to thinness and sagginess of the face, including the lips. Lip fillers work by replacing volume in the lips, creating a more youthful appearance. Lip fillers, also known as lip augmentation; can be divided into structure injections and volume injections. While a structure injection adds shape to the edges of the lip, a volume injection adds more size to the entire lip. At Peel Haus, we use hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to help patients achieve the full, youthful lips they desire.
Our goal is to add definition and symmetry to lips and smooth out the fine lines and wrinkles that surround the mouth. Patients who trust our DC facility with their lip filler can enjoy these benefits:
Lip fillers are typically appealing to patients who are displeased with the size and shape of their lips and hope to achieve a fuller smile. Peel Haus recommends this procedure to anyone who would like to:

Each of these fillers is unique and offers different advantages depending on your personal lip goals.
Lip injections at Peel Haus are performed in our DC office with minimal preparation and barely any downtime. To ensure you’re comfortable throughout the treatment, we’ll apply a numbing cream to the lip area. Then, one of our skilled injection specialists will carefully and strategically inject the filler. This entire procedure usually takes less than an hour.
Most Washington, DC area patients can return to their everyday activities right after the procedure. They won’t need any downtime. That said, the lips are a sensitive area of the face, and while our physicians use advanced injection techniques to minimize bruising and swelling, you may still experience these side effects. Do not be alarmed if your lips appear bigger than you wanted at first – this is just the swelling, and it will subside within a week or two.
Any bruising or swelling will only last a few days. If you do experience some minor bruising, we recommend picking up some arnica gel or tablets to help speed healing. You can also apply makeup over any bruising to cover it up. Because of the possibility of bruising and swelling, we do not recommend having lip injections immediately before a big event. Give yourself time for healing to make sure you look your absolute best.

Why do lips lose volume and become thin?
The lips are considered one of the most delicate facial features. Unlike skin, our lips are comprised of the same tissue that can be found on the inside of our mouth. Since the surface of the lips do not have any skin cells, they cannot hold moisture and are susceptible to dehydration.
The lips also feature less melanin (the pigment that gives us color) than skin and are at an increased risk of photo aging and sunburn as a result. This destroys the collagen, which is responsible for making the lips look plump. Smoking, repeated sipping, and other lifestyle habits can cause the lips to look even thinner.
What is considered the ideal lip?
Of course, the answer to this question varies from person to person. However, most people would agree that the ideal lip has these characteristics:
• A nicely shaped Cupid’s bow (The Cupid’s bow is the outline of the upper lip, including the two peaks below the nose)
• Distinct borders
• Philtral columns that are well-defined
• Corners that are neutral or turned up slightly
• A lower lip that is about 30% larger than the upper lip
When will the results of a lip filler be apparent?
After a lip filler procedure, patients can expect immediate results. However, there may be some swelling so it’s important to wait a few days to see full results.
What are the risks of lip fillers?
Just like all treatments, lip filler comes with risks. The main ones are redness and swelling at the site of the injection and mild bruising that can easily be concealed with some makeup or lipstick.
Are lip injections safe?
Since lip injections are made with Hyaluronic Acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body, they are completely safe.
Can lip injections be customizable?
One of the greatest benefits of lip injections is that they are completely customizable. Whether a patient is hoping for natural looking results, a very dramatic change, or anything in-between, we’ll make it happen.
Is lip augmentation painful?
Since injections are used, patients may experience slight discomfort when undergoing lip augmentation.
Is lip augmentation permanent?
Since our injections do not lead to permanent results, we encourage patients to visit us for a follow-up treatment about every nine to twelve months or so or when they notice that their lips are losing fullness.
Is it necessary to commit to the lip filler procedure?
The majority of our patients love the fuller, more attractive lips that Restylane delivers and maintain them. However, if a patient is not pleased with their results for any reason, the lip fillers can completely dissolve as if the treatment never happened.
