Over time, our bodies change, and for many women, that includes their breasts. These changes can naturally affect body image. Luckily, modern plastic surgery advancements offer many solutions to these concerns! Breast augmentation surgery increases breast size, while breast revision surgery refreshes implants or addresses other issues.
Whether you’re considering increasing volume or rejuvenating existing implants, breast revision surgery in Washington DC offers personalized solutions to empower your body journey.
Overview of Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation surgery is one of our most popular procedures and often a part of the Mommy Makeover package! To achieve the new look, our expert surgeons use medical-grade implants to increase breast size and redefine shape. Patients who choose this procedure are typically very satisfied with the outcomes.
Overview of Breast Revision Surgery
Breast revision surgery is often needed to correct aging implants or replace them with fresher models. Here are a few factors and conditions that lead women to choose breast revision surgery:
- Breast asymmetry
- Implant rippling or rupture
- Change in implant material
- Change in implant size preferences
- Symmastia (breasts are touching)
- Scar tissue around the implant
- Double bubble implants; high riding
- Sagging or nipple ptosis
- Malformed nipples
- Areola shrinkage
Benefits of Breast Revision Surgery in Washington DC
As women age, their breasts naturally change due to hormones, aging, and pregnancy. Breast revision surgery in Washington DC can help address these changes, restoring fullness and youthful appearance.
There are several advantages to undergoing breast augmentation surgery:
- Improved symmetry
- Enhanced size and shape
- Rejuvenated lift (to correct sagging)
- Restored appearance following breast surgery
- Improved proportions and balance between the breasts and the rest of the body
However, breast implants have a limited lifespan and, typically, breast revision surgery is needed eventually. The benefits include:
- Relief from previous implant discomfort
- Improved physical appearance
- Boosted self-confidence
Ideal Candidates for Breast Augmentation and Revision
Candidates for breast augmentation or revision should have good physical and mental health and realistic expectations.
Additionally, breast augmentation is ideal for candidates with concerns such as breast flattening, elongation, asymmetry, or lack of volume and cleavage. If you’re unsatisfied with the size, shape, appearance, or integrity of your existing implants, revision surgery might be the best solution.
While both procedures enhance breast appearance, limitations exist. For example, larger breasts that are sagging might benefit more from a breast lift.
What to Expect
During your initial consultation, we’ll evaluate your breasts or implants and have a thorough discussion about your goals. The surgeon will explain the limitations, risks, FDA regulations, costs, and the schedule for surgery day.
After you decide to proceed, our team will help you choose implants, their size, position, texture, and shape. Patients often enjoy this process!
Choosing Between Silicone and Saline Implants for Breast Augmentation
The most significant choice is whether to get silicone or saline implants – and what size.
Silicone Breast Implants
Are you looking for natural-looking and soft augmentation? Silicone gels, approved for ages 22 and up, might be perfect. This option works well for individuals with thin builds or and individuals with minimal breast tissue. However, with silicone, they do require a larger incision, pre-filled placement, and, in the future, may require an MRI to detect leaks.
The two types of silicone implants to pick from are cohesive silicone gel and form-stable silicone implants. Cohesive gel implants are known for their soft and flexible feel, which makes them look and feel very natural. Form-stable silicone “gummy bear” implants are stronger but firmer than cohesive implants.
Saline Breast Implants
For patients who prefer a quicker, minimally invasive procedure, saline implants (available for ages 18 and up) are ideal. When inserted, these implants need a smaller incision and have a firmer texture than silicone. They work well for individuals with extra breast tissue that can provide additional natural coverage surrounding the implants.
Picking Implant Shape and Size
Breast implants come in various sizes and shapes. Round implants add fullness and project higher, while teardrop implants mimic their natural form with fullness concentrated below.
Textured implants grip tissue to keep it from shifting but have a rare lymphoma risk. Smooth implants feel natural – but may ripple. You’ll discuss risks and options with the surgeon to find the right fit.
Recovery Details and Timeframe
Breast augmentation and revision recovery times are similar. After surgery, your plastic surgeon will give detailed instructions for changing bandages, cleaning incisions, showering, and more. Following both procedures, you must arrange for transportation home.
Most patients return to work within a week or two. Additionally, we’ll provide pain medication to help alleviate any discomfort. And your new breasts will be supported by a special post-augmentation bra.
Cost of Breast Revision Surgery in Washington DC
Breast revision surgery is a cosmetic procedure not covered by insurance with breast reconstructions as the exception. You’ll discuss the cost with our team during your first consultation.
