SCULPTRA
Sculptra is an FDA-approved facial-volumizing filler that works differently from other fillers. Unlike most fillers which are comprised of Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin, the main ingredient in Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic substance that has been used for many years in medicine including dissolvable stitches. Poly-L-lactic acid products such as Sculptra are technically classified as “collagen stimulators” because the primary mechanism to smooth fine lines is by helping your skin rebuild natural collagen.
Sculptra Aesthetic stimulates new collagen which replaces the collagen you have lost due to aging. This reinforced skin structure provides a foundation that gradually and subtly restores the look of fullness and corrects wrinkles and folds, providing a more youthful-looking appearance that can last more than two years.
At Peel Haus, our expert injectors customize the use of Sculptra in Washington, DC for our patients.
It can be used to treat:
Traditional dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid, a gel-like compound that attracts water and works immediately upon injection to replenish lost facial volume. Sculptra, a collagen-stimulating filler, works differently. Instead of offering immediate results, it gradually diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles by targeting the deeper layers of the dermis. There, it stimulates collagen synthesis, which causes the skin’s underlying structure to becomes thicker and more elastic, helping to restore more youthful contours.
Sculptra begins to work within a few weeks after injection and gradually enhances collagen levels to improve the skin’s structural foundation. Most patients will see gradual improvements in fullness and volume within three to nine months. This is an added benefit, as there is no chance of overcorrecting, and results will be more subtle. The treatment regimen for Sculptra is unique in that it consists of three injections over the course of three or four months. What’s also different is that Sculptra can produce improved appearance of your skin for up to two years.
The difference between this and other dermal fillers is that this stimulates your own collagen, allowing your tissue to gain volume gradually. Other dermal fillers plump up areas more quickly because they fill in the treated area for immediate volume results. It’s worth waiting for Sculptra to help your body produce its own collagen because the results are longer lasting. Sculptra may also be used in conjunction with hyaluronic acid fillers for optimal short and long-term results.
Sculptra Aesthetic is intended for use in people with healthy immune systems as a one-time treatment regimen of up to 4 injection sessions that are scheduled about 3-4 weeks apart for correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles. The number of injections per session varies from person to person.
Sculptra isn’t for everyone. You may not be a candidate for it if:
Sculptra is considered a safe way to restore lost facial volume and treat visible signs of aging. It was approved by the FDA in 2004 and has been administered around the world since 1999. Sculptra is made of a synthetic material that is biocompatible and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches. It does not contain any components that would require prior allergy testing.
Sculptra injections at Peel Haus are performed in our DC office with minimal preparation and barely any downtime. To ensure you’re comfortable throughout the treatment, we’ll apply a numbing cream to the face. Sculptra is pre-mixed with lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment experience. Then, one of our expert injectors will carefully and strategically inject the mixture using a cannula. Patients who undergo Sculptra treatments via cannula may find the procedure less painful, as the cannula tip is designed to push, not penetrate the skin. Treatment is typically quite comfortable and brief, with most patients in and out of the office in less than an hour. Following your treatment, you may return to most activities immediately.
Most Washington, DC area patients can return to their everyday activities after Sculptra treatment. They won’t need any downtime. As with any filler injection, there can be some bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort after the treatment. Please note that after this treatment, you will not be able to apply makeup for four hours. Heavy exercise and excessive heat (hot tubs and saunas) should also be avoided for 24 hours. Additionally, you must massage the treated area regularly for five days after receiving your injections.
