BOTOX
FDA-Approved
Fine lines and wrinkles can make you look tired, tense, and years older than you really are. The good news is that Botox can help almost anyone with dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead achieve smoother-looking skin and a youthful aesthetic. At Peel Haus, our expert injectors are pleased to perform Botox injections for patients in the Washington, DC area. We only use FDA-approved neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin. A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last about three months. At Peel Haus, we customize injections for each patient. Our expert team is here to help you determine the best solution for you.
Botox works by disrupting the pathways between the nerves and the muscles. This prevents the muscles from moving and contracting, which, over time, causes wrinkles and fine lines to soften and relax. It takes an experienced hand to administer just enough Botox to be effective without creating a “frozen” look. This treatment is effective for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face. It is commonly used in areas like the forehead, eyes, nose, and upper lip areas, as these are all high-movement regions that tend to develop dynamic wrinkles over time, however, Botox can be used in many areas of the face and body to achieve desired aesthetic effects.
The greatest benefit of Botox is that it allows patients to look refreshed, and sometimes even younger. It not only smooths wrinkles but can boost confidence by creating a more rested and more pleasant appearance to the face. Additionally, Botox can lift the brow to help patients look more awake and alert. It may also be used to decrease excessive sweating and treat headaches and migraines.
What Areas Can Neurotoxins Like BOTOX Treat?
BOTOX® Cosmetic works on wrinkles and lines that are caused by common facial expressions like frowning and smiling. It can also help people who suffer from excessive sweating, migraines and jaw pain/TMJ. The injectable won’t work on wrinkles that are caused by loss of facial volume or skin laxity.
Lines in Between Brows (Also Called Glabella or Frown Lines)
The lines in between the brows can become very deep. In some people, BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce the appearance of these lines. In others, the treatment may be able to eliminate the lines entirely.
Lines Around the Eyes (Also Known as Crow’s Feet)
Facial muscle movements can cause lines to form between your eyes and crow’s feet to appear at the corners of your eyes. BOTOX® can give you younger, brighter-looking eyes by reducing the appearance of these lines.
Underarm Sweating (Also Known as Hyperhidrosis)
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating can present significant challenges in both professional and social circumstances. This problem can be uncomfortable, embarrassing, and unattractive. Botox is an effective solution to this problem. Injecting Botox into the sweat glands under your arms will dramatically reduce the amount of sweat they produce, and it works in just a few days! This will give you the freedom and confidence you deserve.
Masseter Reduction & Facial Slimming
Some patients have prominent or overdeveloped jaw muscles–called masseters–that cause fullness in the lower face or a square-looking jaw. By injecting Botox into these muscles, our expert injectors can cause them to relax, which slims the lower face, creating what’s sometimes referred to as a “V-line” face shape. This procedure enhances the contours of the lower face, highlighting the cheeks and chin.
Botox is one of our most popular injectables for the treatment of dynamic facial wrinkles. It gives our experienced injectors the ability to target fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and at the corners of the eyes. You may be an ideal candidate for Botox treatment, if:
The good news is that you have plenty of neuromodulators to choose from, if you are seeking a safe, non-surgical, non-invasive option. At Peel Haus, our goal is to ensure you can meet all of your aesthetic needs at our office. We offer all the latest and most advanced neuromodulators, so that we can provide you with a range of options to ensure you can achieve the appearance you want.
If you are interested in Botox and similar products, here are some of your neuromodulator solutions:
Botox (Allergan), Dysport (Galderma) and Jeuveau (Evolus) all have the same active ingredient—botulinum toxin—but each brand has a slightly different formulation. Generally, most practitioners use all 3 to treat fine lines and wrinkles and will work with you to choose the best one(s) for you.
Each of these neuromodulators is unique and offers different advantages depending on your personal goals. For instance, Dysport results show in as little as 2 – 3 days, while Botox typically takes 4-7 days. They all last roughly 3 – 4 months. They are all FDA-approved and safe for all skin types.
If it is determined that you are a good candidate for Botox, one of our expert injectors will spend time listening to your aesthetic goals, and will evaluate your fine lines and wrinkles so that they can select specific injection sites and will discuss with you the type and amount of product required to achieve your goals.
The neuromodulation will then be injected into your facial muscles to reduce muscle contraction and smooth the appearance of wrinkles. Your Botox treatment will be completed within 15 minutes or so. There is no downtime, though you may have temporary redness at the injection sites.
Most Washington, DC area patients can return to their everyday activities right after their Botox procedure. They won’t need any downtime. We do recommend that patients remain upright for a minimum of four hours. Patients will find that their wrinkles become less noticeable in two to eight days depending on the neuromodulation selected. Results usually last up to four months.
Bruising is uncommon, but always possible. If there is any bruising it will only last a few days and we recommend using arnica gel to help speed healing. You can also apply makeup over any bruising to cover it up. Because of the possibility of bruising, we do not recommend having Botox injections immediately before a big event. Give yourself time for healing to make sure you look your absolute best.

Who is a good candidate for botox?
Is Botox Better than Dysport or Xeomin?
During your consultation, our expert injectors will help you determine whether BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, or XEOMIN is the best option for your specific needs. The products are very similar. Botox is the most well-known cosmetic product in the world, and its popularity stems from how effectively it can diminish dynamic wrinkles. Dysport and XEOMIN are equally effective, though not as well-known. All 3 products are FDA-approved.
Here are the main differences:
How Much Botox Do I Need?
BOTOX® treatments are given in units. For any given area, the number of units needed varies, depending on the strength of your facial muscles and the thickness of your skin. This means that men often need more units than women for similar levels of treatment.
On average, you can expect to need 12 to 24 units per area in the most common areas:
When should I start getting Botox?
Some patients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Botox. There is no right or wrong age to start using Botox. Patients should be evaluated and receive a consult by a medical professional prior to treatment. Many millennials are starting to using Botox in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.
Should I do anything to prepare for Botox treatment?
A week before the treatment most physicians will advise patients to stop consuming alcohol or taking medications or supplements that thin the blood like aspirin, ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng. This will help minimize bruising after the procedure.
What is Botox Treatment Like?
Having a Botox treatment takes less than 10 minutes. The serum is delivered via injection through a very fine needle, so it causes only a minimal amount of discomfort.
Once your treatment is over, you’ll be able to go about your day as usual, including going back to work. There’s no recovery period, and there are very few restrictions on your activity level. The only restriction is that for the first 24 hours, it’s best to avoid exercise and strenuous activity. This is to reduce the risk of Botox spreading from the injection sites to other parts of the face.
How Long Does It Take BOTOX to Work?
Neurotoxins basically take a few days to produce results. This timeframe varies between products and is generally as early as:
Which Lasts Longer Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport?
The duration of neurotoxin results varies between products and with individual factors. In general:
When your lines begin to return, you can repeat the treatment for continued improvement. Many patients return for regular maintenance treatments for a consistently refreshed look.
How Safe Is Botox?
Botox has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for wrinkle treatment in the U.S. since 2002. It was safely and widely used in Europe and Canada for many years before that, and still is today! If you’re concerned about safety, choose an experienced injectable specialist – someone who has performed Botox procedures many times and knows how to inject safely.
