Substantial weight loss is a great accomplishment that opens the door to a happier and healthier way of life. Unfortunately, some patients might not be able to fully enjoy the results of their weight loss due to complications caused by excess and drooping skin.
That’s why we are proud to offer excess skin removal surgery in Washington DC, allowing patients to fully enjoy the results of their transformed bodies.
What You Need to Know About Excess Skin Removal Surgery
For starters, excess skin removal procedures are a significant form of plastic surgery. Only expert surgeons should perform them – like our team at Peel Haus.
So, why get excess skin removal surgery? Well, if someone has lost a lot of weight, they might consider surgery or other body contouring treatments to get rid of excess skin on their:
- Arms
- Abdomen
- Legs
- Chest
- Buttocks
Removing the excess skin helps patients achieve a more pleasing appearance.
About the Procedure
Every post-weight-loss skin removal surgery is unique. Typically, surgeons use a combination of body lifting treatments to address a patient’s areas of concern during surgery. And whether we use local or general anesthesia depends on the extent of the procedure.
Here are the most common excess skin removal surgeries we perform:
1. Lower Body Lift
The lower body lift dramatically rejuvenates your abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. We tackle excess skin and weakened muscles through a strategically placed beltline incision. And while front and back drooping skin disappears, abdominal muscles strengthen. Finally, the residual tissues are gently elevated and shaped to perfection, giving you a gorgeous lower body.
2. Thigh and Buttock Lift
A thigh and buttock lift reduces extra skin and fat, making legs and buttocks tighter, smoother, and slimmer.
The incisions for this procedure depend on skin location and quantity. Our expert cosmetic surgeon will make incisions in the groin, the natural crease behind the buttocks, or low on the hips.
3. Panniculectomy
After weight loss, many individuals may develop excess skin that hangs below their belly button, commonly called a “pannus” or “apron.” This procedure aims to give you a smoother and firmer torso by removing the excess skin via a small incision above the pubic area.
4. Upper Body Lift
An upper body lift addresses back fat, sagging breasts (or extended skin in the chest area), and hanging arm skin – sculpting a smoother appearance. Choose from a targeted arm lift with discreet underside incisions, a back lift/bra line lift that combines liposuction for a sleek back, or a breast lift to restore volume and shape.
Benefits of Excess Skin Removal Surgery
Excess skin removal surgery goes beyond aesthetics for many people. It provides a practical and confidence-boosting transformation. This procedure helps remove excess skin, fat, and weight – revealing the underlying muscle definition.
Additionally, when you don’t have excess tissue weighing you down, your clothes fit and feel better, and exercising becomes more leisurely. Ultimately, the surgery can help you become a more comfortable and confident version of yourself.
Ideal Candidate
Excess skin removal surgery in Washington DC can be transformational for the right individuals. There are a few key factors that contribute to being an ideal candidate for this procedure:
- You are in good health
- You are at a stable weight
- You have enough time to recover (several weeks)
- You have realistic expectations regarding plastic surgery
- You’re okay with minimal scarring on certain parts of your body
What to Expect
Before your operation, you will have an initial consultation with our team. We’ll discuss your medical history, options, risks, recovery, expenses, and restrictions. This appointment is your chance to meet with the surgeon and ask any questions. Likewise, they will explain how the operation schedule will unfold, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the big day.
Recovery Timeframe
Your recovery timeline depends on the treatment and amount of skin removed. Expect a longer journey for extensive surgeries like lower body lifts and a quicker bounce back for procedures like arm lifts. The surgery’s intensity also determines your hospital stay – but all procedures require someone to drive you home afterward.
Mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising are possible in the following weeks. You’ll receive pain medication, compression garments, and temporary drains to ease these.
Since healing can take several weeks, plan to take time off work. This phase might be challenging for climbing stairs, heavy lifting, and exercising. But fear not. After a few weeks and any necessary follow-ups, you’ll be back to your routine and feeling confident in your newly contoured self.

We tailor each procedure to meet the specific requirements of each patient. The amount of skin removed, fat suctioned, and other contouring treatments performed might vary from patient to patient, affecting the ultimate cost. We’ll cover these logistics in detail at your initial consultation!
