MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is a terrific treatment for those experiencing uneven skin texture, acne scarring, surgical scars, other scars, burns, enlarged pores, wrinkles or stretch marks. At Peel Haus Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery in Washington, DC, we are pleased to perform your transformative microneedling service. A minimally invasive procedure that entails little to no downtime, microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The pinpricks from the procedure cause a controlled injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich skin tissue that is more even in tone and texture.
Microneedling can be used by men and women wanting to improve:
Microneedling is one of the most popular services at Peel Haus. Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating discrete wounds in the skin’s dermal and epidermal layers with tiny sterilized needles. This stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin, which heals your skin in a few day’s time leaving it more smooth in texture. Microneedling is also referred to as collagen induction therapy.
Premature aging can present as fine lines and wrinkles. The tiny injuries from a microneedling session boosts collagen and elastin production to fight lines and wrinkles.
Collagen and elastin are compounds in your skin that add structure and strength, lending a youthful quality. The wound-healing mechanisms also stimulate your body to produce new skin cells, making fine lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles less apparent.
Because microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, it is extremely effective in addressing scars on your skin. Microneedling has actually become one of the most popular treatment options for scars. Microneedling breaks up scar tissue and encourages the growth of new tissue. It works very well for hypertrophic scars caused by acne, burns, injury and surgery. It is not suitable for keloid scars.
Microneedling is effective in lightening and reversing sun damage, particularly hyperpigmentation and age spots. If you have a blotchy, brownish complexion, which is probably a result of too many days of sunning, microneedling and its ability to stimulate new collagen and skin cells can reinvigorate your look and even out your tone.
Skin Laxity
As we age, skin loses its elasticity, and appears lax. Microneedling can address mild skin laxity. For more moderate skin laxity, RF Microneedling can help tighten the skin. The buildup of collagen and elastin that occurs in response to tiny wounds created by microneedling can improve skin structure to fight skin laxity.
Enlarged Pores
Despite the fact that microneedling involves creating small channels in your skin, it doesn’t increase the size of your pores. In fact, it helps your pores appear much smaller. Microneedling creates micro-injuries on targeted areas to trigger your skin’s natural wound healing response. This creates new collagen and elastin, creating the appearance of smoother, tighter skin.
Stretch marks can be a sensitive skin concern for many. Since stretch marks cause a disruption in the natural production of collagen, microneedling will help not only restart that production, but the overproduction of elastin and collagen will help in healing the damaged connective tissue in the dermis that created the stretch mark. A procedure like microneedling is great for stretch marks because it penetrates deep enough to create a reaction within the same layers of skin that the stretch marks reside instead of resting on the surface.
Microneedling is an effective treatment for acne and acne scarring, because it helps to reduce scars by improving the overall texture of your skin and helping your acne medication be more effective. When acne breakouts occur in the skin, they damage the tissue and the body tries to repair it. If there is too much or not enough collagen, your skin will scar. Microneedling helps by stimulating collagen, creating smoother skin.
One of the great things about microneedling is how accessible it is. During your initial evaluation, your provider will review your medical history and aesthetic goals to ensure that you are a good candidate for treatment. Luckily, many people, regardless of skin tone, make good candidates for this treatment. Microneedling is appealing to those who have a variety of skin issues such as:
Because it is minimally invasive and does not cause significant wounding to the skin, virtually anybody can safely undergo microneedling therapy. Even those with thin skin can undergo treatment since the depth of penetration can be finely controlled.
Microneedling is not for everyone, though. Our experts might caution against it if you:
Before microneedling in DC at Peel Haus, the area to be treated will be cleansed and topical numbing cream will be applied. The numbing cream will remain on for 30-45 minutes depending on the area. Once your skin is numb, our specialist will then run the tiny needles evenly over your face. This process generally takes about 30 minutes. After the procedure, your provider may apply a calming serum to your skin. How long your treatment lasts depends on the size of the area being treated. For instance, treating the upper lip takes minutes, while a large area like the back or legs may last more than an hour.
We’re taking microneedling to the next level with crushed liquid threads that are suspended in Hyaluronic Acid then deposited into microchannels using microneedling. If threads and microneedling had a baby, this would be it! You’ll be stimulating 3.5 million pro-collagen every day over the next three months.
Take microneedling even further! We’ll elevate your PowerHaus Induction Therapy serum by incorporating toxins – a true game-changer. You’ll witness consistent and truly amazing results!
Healing from microneedling may take up to two to three days depending on the extent of the treatment. You are free to return to work or school immediately after treatment and may wear makeup 24 hours after your treatment. While it only takes around a day for your skin to heal from collagen induction therapy, the aftercare process lasts several weeks. Strict adherence to aftercare instructions ensures that your collagen grows as quickly as possible and you get the best results from each treatment.
To avoid possible side effects, all patients need to protect their skin from the sun. After microneedling, you should:

Click on the question below to reveal the answer.
What will I look like immediately after microneedling treatment?
Most patients notice redness and mild swelling similar to slight sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be slight pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two.
Does microneedling hurt?
Prior to the treatment, numbing cream can be applied to minimize any pain that is felt during the procedure.
What should I avoid after microneedling treatment in DC?
AHAs, BHAs, retinol, acidic or other active ingredients should not be used for three to five days after treatment to allow for maximum healing. Sun exposure is not recommended and a good broad-spectrum sunscreen is encouraged.
How long do microneedling results last?
The effects of a microneedling pen are not permanent, so clinicians recommend a maintenance program which could include quarterly procedures to keep skin looking its best. Your results will last anywhere from three to five months, and many patients schedule follow-up treatments twice a year to maintain their results. Taking good care of your skin through a conscientious at-home skincare routine will help preserve your results.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
Each patient’s skin condition and goals will help determine the number of treatments that are needed. Microneedling can be safely repeated every four to six weeks as determined by your provider.
How long does it take to heal from microneedling treatment?
Healing from microneedling usually takes just 24 hours. However, it may take up to two to three days depending on the extent of the treatment.
Why are multiple microneedling treatments necessary?
To get the full benefits of the microneedling treatment, you should get at least 4 to 6 sessions. This gives the skin enough time to make real progress with renewing itself and creating enough collagen and elastin to give long-lasting results. For harder to treat issues like deep scarring, you may need up to eight sessions.
How soon can I have my next microneedling treatment?
Patients should wait four weeks between microneedling sessions to allow the skin adequate time to heal. Your provider will tell you when it is safe to have another treatment.
Is microneedling safe?
Microneedling is considered safe. But like any procedure, it has risks. You could have an allergic reaction to the cream or serum that goes on your skin after the microneedling. And the wounds might get infected if you don’t keep your skin clean. You should stay away from places that could have lots of germs, like swimming pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans. And don’t use irritating soaps and lotions. Be sure to follow your provider’s after-care instructions.
How old do you have to be to get microneedling treatment?
Microneedling is safe for all skin types and all skin tones and is safe for all ages, although we recommend the procedure for ages 16 years or older.
How should I prepare for microneedling treatment?
To ensure optimal results during your treatment, avoid using topical agents that could potentially heighten the sensitivity of your skin. Avoid plucking, waxing, and tanning and taking medications such as blood thinners, NSAIDs, and pain relievers days before your treatment. Also refrain from using substances like retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, or acids in the 5-7 days leading up to your scheduled treatment. Please wash your face with a gentle cleanser and do not wear lotion, moisturizers, sunscreens, or serums to your appointment.
