Smooth Wrinkles

Botox in

Washington, DC.

Fine lines and wrinkles can make you look tired, tense, and years older than you really are. The good news is that Botox can help almost anyone with dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead achieve smoother-looking skin and a youthful aesthetic.

At Peel Haus, our expert injectors are pleased to perform Botox injections for patients in the Washington, DC area. We only use FDA-approved neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin. A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last about three-four months.

At Peel Haus, we customize injections for each patient. Our expert team is here to help you determine the best solution for you.

How Botox Works

Disrupting the pathway between nerve and muscle.

Botox works by disrupting the pathways between the nerves and the muscles. This prevents the muscles from moving and contracting, which, over time, causes wrinkles and fine lines to soften and relax. It takes an experienced hand to administer just enough Botox to be effective without creating a “frozen” look.

This treatment is effective for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face. It is commonly used in areas like the forehead, eyes, nose and upper lip — high-movement regions that tend to develop dynamic wrinkles over time. Botox can also be used in many other areas of the face and body to achieve desired aesthetic effects.

Benefits of Botox

A refreshed face. A renewed confidence.

The greatest benefit of Botox is that it allows patients to look refreshed, and sometimes even younger. It not only smooths wrinkles but can boost confidence by creating a more rested and pleasant appearance to the face. Botox can also lift the brow to help patients look more awake and alert, decrease excessive sweating, and treat headaches and migraines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works on wrinkles and lines caused by common facial expressions like frowning and smiling, as well as excessive sweating, migraines and TMJ. It will not work on wrinkles caused by loss of facial volume or skin laxity.

Treatment Areas

Where Botox works

Frown Lines

The lines in between the brows can become very deep. In some people, BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce the appearance of these lines. In others, the treatment may be able to eliminate the lines entirely.

Crow's Feet

Facial muscle movements can cause lines to form between your eyes and crow’s feet to appear at the corners of your eyes. BOTOX® can give you younger, brighter-looking eyes by reducing the appearance of these lines — for a more rested look without losing your natural expression.

Forehead Lines

Horizontal lines across the forehead are smoothed through carefully measured doses, resulting in a refreshed appearance that still moves authentically. Botox is commonly used in the forehead, eyes, nose and upper lip — high-movement regions that tend to develop dynamic wrinkles over time.

Jaw Slimming

Some patients have prominent or overdeveloped jaw muscles–called masseters–that cause fullness in the lower face or a square-looking jaw. By injecting Botox into these muscles, our expert injectors can cause them to relax, which slims the lower face, creating what’s sometimes referred to as a “V-line” face shape. This procedure enhances the contours of the lower face, highlighting the cheeks and chin.

Underarm Sweating

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can present significant challenges in both professional and social circumstances — it is uncomfortable, embarrassing and unattractive.

TMJ & Migraines

Beyond aesthetics, Botox is an effective therapeutic tool. It can help patients who suffer from chronic migraines and headaches, as well as jaw clenching and TMJ discomfort — easing tension and restoring quality of life.

Months of confidence

Most Washington, DC area patients return to their everyday activities right after treatment. There is no downtime — only a few thoughtful guidelines for the most beautiful result.

Consultation

Your injector listens to your aesthetic goals and evaluates your fine lines and wrinkles, selecting specific injection sites and discussing the type and amount of product required to achieve your goals.

The neuromodulator is injected into your facial muscles through a very fine needle to reduce muscle contraction. The session takes about 15 minutes with only minimal discomfort.

There is no downtime — return to your day immediately, including work. Remain upright for a minimum of four hours and avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours.

Wrinkles become less noticeable in two to eight days depending on the neuromodulator selected. Results typically last up to four months. Bruising is uncommon, but arnica gel can speed healing if needed.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Any male or female with healthy skin with moderate elasticity but starting to show signs of aging. Ideal candidates are at least 18 years old, in good general health, not pregnant or nursing, with mild to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and realistic expectations for improvement. A consultation will confirm whether Botox is the right path for you.

During your consultation, our expert injectors will help you determine whether Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Jeuveau, or Xeomin is the best option for your specific needs. The products are very similar – all FDA-approved and equally effective. The main differences: results from Dysport and Xeomin typically appear about a day or two earlier than Botox; Dysport spreads farther from the injection site, making it well-suited for larger treatment areas; and some people find that Dysport results last longer than other neurotoxin options

Botox® treatments are given in units. For any given area, the number of units needed varies depending on the strength of your facial muscles and the thickness of your skin — meaning men often need more units than women for similar levels of treatment. On average, you can expect to need 12 to 24 units per area in the most common areas: forehead, glabella (between the brows), and crow’s feet.

Some patients wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Botox. There is no right or wrong age to start — patients should be evaluated and receive a consultation by a medical professional prior to treatment. Many people start Botox in their twenties when they first notice lines and wrinkles, or as a preventative measure.

A week before treatment, most physicians advise patients to stop consuming alcohol or taking medications and supplements that thin the blood — like aspirin, ibuprofen, Ginkgo Biloba or Ginseng. This will help minimize bruising after the procedure.

Having a Botox treatment takes less than 10 minutes. The medicine is delivered via injection through a very fine needle, so it causes only a minimal amount of discomfort. Once treatment is over you can go about your day as usual, including returning to work. There’s no recovery period and very few restrictions — just avoid exercise and strenuous activity for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of Botox spreading from the injection sites.

Neurotoxins take a few days to produce results. Timeframes vary between products: Dysport: 2 to 3 days. Xeomin: 3 to 4 days. Botox: 3 to 5 days. Full effect is typically visible within one to two weeks.

Duration varies between products and with individual factors. In general: Neuromodulators last approximately 3-4 months and Dysport may last a bit longer in some individuals. When your lines begin to return, you can repeat treatment for continued improvement — patients are encouraged to return for regular maintenance for a consistently refreshed look.

Botox has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for wrinkle treatment in the U.S. since 2002. It was safely and widely used in Europe and Canada for many years before that, and still is today. If you’re concerned about safety, choose an experienced injectable specialist — someone who has performed Botox procedures many times and knows how to inject safely.
